It’s been pointed out to me recently that I’ve comes miles from where I was at when I started this series all those weeks ago– namely, I’m no longer on crutches, and I’m beginning to make a comeback to my old self. Hence, it was time for a re-brand!
My week has been fairly busy – I handed in my notice at my old job and accepted a brand new offer. Somewhat intense! Currently, I seem to be fighting off some kind of cold/flu type thing, which I think is the result of having been fairly run-down and non-stop for several weeks! Let’s have a quick check-in on this comeback, shall we?
I’ve signed up to two main events, to get me focused on both running and becoming a more well-rounded athlete. I love swimming but lack the motivation to get in the pool, and apparently I needed to put my money where my mouth is!
- Vilnius Half Marathon (Lithuania), 10th September. This is the big goal.
- Swim Serpentine (1 mile open water), 16th September
I have only just now realised how close together these two events are. Fuck.
Where I’m at physically
The ankle is doing pretty well! It’s a little stiff and sounds a tad like a cement mixer when I move it, but that’s entirely my own fault because I’ve been running around on it like a crazy person! In terms of the rest of me- I’ve been fairly run down and so have been doing a lot of sleeping and eating. I think the past few months of going all out and running round like a crazy person have finally caught up with me, and so I’m taking some well-deserved rest.
I’ve been a bit crazy busy this past week with some pretty huge stuff going on, as I mentioned. That’s led to being rundown and, quite frankly, a whole week of pretty much nothing. I was feeling strong towards the start of the week, but after that it’s been mainly a case of doing plenty of sleeping and re-fuelling.
- Monday: Rest day
- Tuesday: Lunchtime workout: 30 minute run (!) + abs
- Wednesday: Lunchtime workout: 30 minutes cardio + abs
- Thursday: Rest day
- Friday: Rest day
- Saturday: Rest day
- Sunday: Rest day
I’ve been uncontrollably hungry this week, and so plenty of avocado on toast has been where it’s at. I’m also incredibly lucky in that a colleague of mine brings us all free Pret food once a week- and Pret is pretty much my favourite place for vegan options. In other news, I finally bought myself a smoothie maker and have been loving mocha protein iced coffee, as well as ridiculous green smoothies to try and ward off this sickness.
I’ve only run once this week, but I swear it has been worth it. When I ran on Tuesday it was at the gym, on the treadmill at lunchtime, when I had some serious decisions to think over. Although I’m still running intervals and can’t run particularly fast, I’ve counterbalanced this by sticking the treadmill on an incline and really getting my heartrate up. It was one of of those horrific, invigorating can I stop yet runs that just made me feel so much better. And helped me make those decisions!
Where I’m at mentally
Uh, pretty exhausted as you may have guessed. The whole job change has been pretty intense, and along with all the other little things going on in life at the moment, including the Family Drama, I’ve just taken this long weekend to relax and focus on eating good food, sleeping lots and generally being boujie. Sleep, brunch and smoothies. That’s where I’m at.
All things said it hasn’t been the best start to the comeback… but I resolve to remain positive, get over this flu and keep moving forward.
