The Crutch Chronicles: Episode 9

This past week has flown by, and I can’t believe it’s been nearly 8 weeks since my fall. A lot has changed, in all parts of my life, and honestly it’s been a whirlwind. So here’s where I’m at.

The New Job

It’s been a bit of a whirlwind this week- lots of events, client dining and busy busy days. I’m by no means complaining (I like to be kept busy after all!) but it’s definitely left me needing a bit of R & R.

Where I’m at physically

The ankle is pretty much the same as last week, which I know is entirely my fault for not doing my rehab properly. It isn’t too sore though, and hopefully gentle rehabilitation will do its magic. I’m gradually getting back into shape, although I wish I wasn’t so doughy right now! I’m introducing strength training and cardio back into my routine, in the hopes that they will help my eventual running comeback!

Physio

Uh, like I said. I have no motivation for doing my rehab at the moment. I try to incorporate balance exercises into my daily routine (for instance, brushing my teeth standing on one leg), as well as ankle circles whenever I remember during a long meeting. But still, I’m failing miserably, and I think that’s due to not having a goal. One of my ideas is to book a half marathon for September to really light a fire under my sorry ass. Thoughts?

Food

I’ve been loving the plant based diet, as well as cooking for myself – which I’ve always found therapeutic. I’ve been spending far too much money, however, and so this is going to have to stop pretty soon! #mealprep for the win.

Exercise

I’m now back at the gym! I managed to get two gym-based workouts in, which were:

  • 30 minutes spinning + leg strength
  • 50 minutes spinning + core (and very little at that)

Then I was also able to make a return to my favourite yoga class at Another Space. This was a real landmark for me because it’s such a fantastic class, but I’d been worried about showing up and just feeling incompetent and unfit. Not gonna lie, there were some parts that were a struggle, but overall I enjoyed it; the meditation in particular was exactly what the doctor ordered.

Where I’m at mentally

If I had to describe my mood last week it would be frazzled. In all honesty things have been really tough recently between work, rehab and family drama. I took a self-care weekend just now, which consisted of yoga, good food and a knitting & wine night with my favourite runner pal Ashley. Nonetheless I’m still suffering from tension headaches and some difficulty breathing, which means it’s probably time to 1. get a massage, 2. do some yoga and 3. find a therapist. It’s not going to be fun, but sometimes it’s just got to be done.

How’s your week been?

How do you cope with a lack of motivation?

Lots of love,

Pippa

  1. You could book yourself into the Disneyland Paris Half Marathon at the end of September… So easy to get to from London and such a fun event you could do the distance without the need to compete 🙂

  2. I agree with another comment on here, get with your rehab so you can get out running again asap. Running is what keeps my mental health in check. I’m sorry to hear how stressed you are. Take care of yourself. X

  3. It seems you’re doing a lot of pushing and pulling, between your melon and your recovery from your ankle. You don’t want to do yoga because you’ll look out of practice but you want to do more yoga to relieve tension headaches. You post a picture decrying getting out of bed to do life but you’re busy and you like to be kept busy, to a degree.

It’s like watching a tennis match reading your posts. I point this out not to be a pain in the ass, but because maybe I’m seeing something you aren’t.
